Welcome to La Maison au Puits!

"The traveler who, from the terraces of Cordes, sees the day fade, knows that he need not travel further and that, if he so desires, the beauty here will deliver him day after day from all loneliness."
Albert Camus

The same peace and simplicity are experienced every day at La Maison au Puits: a place to slow down, surrounded by beauty, and to feel completely at home.

I am Mirjam, the proud owner of La Maison au Puits in beautiful Cordes-sur-Ciel.

Originally from the Netherlands, but with a great love for France and the quiet rhythm of life here.

For me, hospitality lies in attention and simplicity: a warm welcome, a carefully prepared breakfast, and a house maintained with love. It is important to me that everyone feels welcome.

Together with my dog Baloe, I provide a place where peace, atmosphere, and personal attention are central.

The house

La Maison au Puits, “the house with the well,” is located at the foot of the ancient, picturesque medieval town of Cordes-sur-Ciel, which translates loosely as “Cordes in the sky.”

The house dates back to the 18th century and has been carefully renovated into a charming and comfortable stay. Authentic elements have been preserved, allowing the character of the house to be felt. The warm, personal decor and tranquil atmosphere invite you to slow down.

The communal dining and living room forms the heart of the house, a place to read, enjoy a glass of wine, or simply relax. The name of the house refers to the old well located inside.

A house with history and character.

The rooms

The house features three guest rooms, each with its own stylish bathroom equipped with a shower and toilet.

All rooms are designed as comfortable double rooms. The family room can also accommodate four people. Additionally, there is a room that can host a third person alongside two guests. This way, each room offers flexibility without compromising on quality and comfort.

Here you sleep in the atmosphere of the past, with the comfort of today.

The garden

The courtyard garden of La Maison au Puits is a sheltered spot. Surrounded by the old walls of the house, the garden forms a green oasis, full of light and softness.

On beautiful mornings, the day begins here with breakfast in the open air. It is also a lovely place for coffee or tea, a good book in the shade, or a glass of wine in the evening sun. When evening falls and the temperature allows, a fireplace provides extra warmth and an intimate atmosphere.

The scent of plants, the soft rustle of leaves, and the play of light and shadow make this courtyard the heart of the house, a place to enjoy.

  • A short distance away lies Albi, famous for the impressive brick cathedral of Sainte-Cécile and the museum dedicated to Toulouse-Lautrec. The city breathes history and grandeur and is definitely worth a visit.
  • For those who fancy a larger city, Toulouse is within reach — the “pink city” with its squares, terraces, shops, and lively atmosphere. A beautiful combination of culture, architecture, and southern charm.

Nature & walks

  • The centuries-old Route des Vignobles and regional markets with local products can be found throughout the wine region.

Historical villages

  • In the nearby region lie picturesque villages such as Puycelsi (recognized as one of the most beautiful villages in France), Castelnau-de-Montmiral, Monestiés, and Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val.
  • Each village has its own character: narrow alleys, local markets, artisans, and regular antique markets or fairs.
